Route items to kitchen displays
KDS routing decides where each item shows up. In the back office you route products, combo components (by group), and modifier groups to one or more Kitchen Display stations, a prep category, or a kitchen printer fallback. Unrouted food still shows on every KDS, while unrouted beverages stay off the kitchen board.
Before you start
- Kitchen Display stations exist and are provisioned.
- Kitchen printers you want as a fallback are set up in Devices & Hardware.
Steps
- Open Business → KDS routing — This page lists your existing routes and lets you add new ones.
- Choose what to route — Pick a Product, Combo group, or Modifier group as the route target.
- Pick the destination — Route to a KDS station, a prep category, or a kitchen printer.
- Add the route — Save it; the route takes effect for newly sent items.
- Test a send — Send an order containing the item and confirm it lands where expected.
Common mistakes
- Assuming unrouted items are hidden — unrouted food shows on every KDS by design.
- Routing a modifier group but not the product it belongs to, then being surprised by where the line appears.
Troubleshooting
An item shows on the wrong station.
Check its route (and its modifier/combo group routes); remove or update the route and re-send.
Beverages aren't showing in the kitchen.
That's intended — unrouted beverages stay off the kitchen board. Add a route if you want them shown.
