Provision a kitchen display

A Kitchen Display (KDS) replaces paper kitchen tickets with a live board on a tablet in the kitchen. You provision the tablet to a Kitchen Display station using a pairing code (or automatic local pairing from an open register on the same network). Once paired, it shows tickets for the location as orders are sent.

Before you start

  • Enable Kitchen Display for the merchant, and create a Kitchen Display station in Devices & Hardware.
  • Put the kitchen tablet on the same network as the registers.
  • Have a register open at the location so it can push credentials over the local network.

Steps

  1. Open the kitchen display provisioning screenOn the tablet, open the kitchen display provisioning page (“Provision this kitchen display”).
  2. Let local pairing run, or enter a codeAn open POS at the location can push credentials over LAN automatically; otherwise get a pairing code from Settings → Displays on the register or from Devices & Hardware.
  3. Pair the tabletEnter the code and tap Pair, or wait for the local pairing offer to complete.
  4. Confirm the board loadsThe station opens to the ticket board for the location.
  5. Send a test orderRing and send an order on the POS and confirm the ticket appears.

Common mistakes

  • Provisioning with a POS station code instead of a Kitchen Display station code.
  • Putting the kitchen tablet on an isolated guest network so local pairing can't reach it.

Troubleshooting

“Kitchen Display not enabled.”

The feature isn't on for this merchant's plan. Ask an enterprise admin to enable Kitchen Display, then re-provision.

The tablet won't pair over LAN.

Keep a register open at the location, confirm both are on the same network, and fall back to entering a pairing code.
