Quick service ordering basics
Quick service (QSR) is the counter-service flow: build an order, then tap Pay to send it and open payment in one move. It's built for speed at a register where the guest pays before or right as they order, rather than running an open table.
Before you start
- The location is set to quick service mode (set per location by Pedestal or in Location Setup).
- Menu items and any required modifiers are set up in the back office.
Steps
- Add items — Tap menu buttons or scan; answer any required modifier prompts.
- Capture the guest name if you use it — A call name helps match the order at pickup.
- Tap Pay — Pay auto-sends any unsent items to the kitchen, then opens the payment screen.
- Take payment — Charge to card, cash, gift card, or another tender.
- Hand off the receipt — Print or email the receipt; the register clears for the next guest.
Common mistakes
- Tapping Pay twice quickly — the first tap already sends the order and opens payment.
- Forgetting a call name on a busy line, making pickup hard to match.
Troubleshooting
Cancel and Hold seem to disappear after Pay.
Pay sends items and leaves a pending order; Cancel and Hold stay available for that pending order until it's paid.
Items didn't reach the kitchen.
Confirm kitchen routing and printers/KDS are set up for those products (see KDS routing).
When to contact support
- Pay completes but the order never shows as paid.
