Printer troubleshooting

Because Pedestal prints over your local network, nearly every printing failure is one of four things: printer power/paper, printer network, wrong IP on file, or the delivering station being asleep or off the network. Check them in that order.

Before you start

  • Know which printer is failing and which station should be delivering its jobs.

Steps

  1. Check the printer itselfPower light on, paper/labels loaded, no error light, cover fully closed.
  2. Check the printer's networkPrint the printer's own status sheet and confirm it has an IP on your network.
  3. Compare the IP on fileThe IP in Settings → Devices & Hardware must match the status sheet exactly — DHCP changes are the classic silent killer.
  4. Check the delivering stationA station on the printer's network must be awake with the app open — it's the bridge between cloud and printer. Force-refresh it.
  5. Power-cycle in orderPrinter first, then router if needed, then re-test from the station.

Common mistakes

  • Reinstalling apps and re-adding printers before checking the IP against a fresh status sheet.
  • Registers on guest Wi-Fi, which isolates devices so the station can't reach the printer at all.
  • Letting the only station at a location sleep overnight and wondering why queued jobs never print.

Troubleshooting

Prints stop after a router change or ISP visit.

The printer's IP almost certainly changed. Get a new status sheet, update the IP in Devices & Hardware, and set a DHCP reservation.

Printing is intermittent.

Usually weak Wi-Fi on the station or printer. Move devices or improve coverage; prefer ethernet for printers.

When to contact support

  • The IP is verified, the station is awake on the same network, and printing still fails.
  • You need help with the optional Device Hub fallback for setups where the tablet can't reach the printer directly.
