Connect a receipt printer
Pedestal is cloud-hosted, so printing works through your station on the local network: the register queues the print job, and the station app on the same Wi-Fi delivers it to the printer's IP address. No separate print server is needed for typical setups — the print bridge is built into the station app.
Before you start
- Use a supported network receipt printer (Epson TM-series models are the common choice).
- Connect the printer to the same network as your stations, ideally with a static IP or DHCP reservation so its address never changes.
- Find the printer's IP address (most Epson printers print a status sheet with it via a button on the printer).
Steps
- Open Settings → Devices & Hardware
- Add a printer peripheral — Choose the Receipt subtype, pick the model, set Connection to Network, and enter the printer's IP address.
- Assign it to the location/station that should use it
- Print a test receipt — Ring a small sale on a station at the same location and print the receipt.
- Check the receipt content — Business name, address, and footer come from receipt options under Operations → Location Setup.
Common mistakes
- Leaving the printer on DHCP without a reservation — the IP changes and printing dies mysteriously weeks later.
- Putting the printer and the register on different networks (or the register on guest Wi-Fi).
- Entering the IP of another device (a status sheet from the actual printer avoids this).
Troubleshooting
Nothing prints.
From a device on the same network, confirm the printer's IP is reachable, then check the IP entered in Devices & Hardware matches the status sheet.
Printing works from one station but not another.
The failing station is likely on a different network or an old page — check its Wi-Fi and force-refresh it.
When to contact support
- Your printer model isn't in the supported list.
- Printing fails on iPad even with the network confirmed (there is an optional Device Hub fallback support can walk you through).
