Install Pedestal POS on iPad
Pedestal POS installs on iPad as a web app from Safari — there's nothing to download from the App Store for a standard register. The key is to install from your station's own install link, so the home-screen icon opens straight to the staff PIN screen for that register.
Before you start
- Create the POS station first so you have its install link or activation code (see “Add a POS station”).
- Connect the iPad to the same Wi-Fi network your printers use.
- Use Safari — other iPad browsers can't add web apps to the home screen.
Steps
- Open the station install link in Safari — Use the station-specific link from the back office — not the general website.
- Tap Share → Add to Home Screen — Accept the suggested name or rename it to the register (for example “Register 1”).
- Open the new home-screen icon — It should open full-screen to the staff PIN screen for that station.
- Sign in with a staff PIN and ring a test item — Confirm the catalog loads and the layout shows catalog and cart side by side.
Common mistakes
- Installing from the generic back-office or marketing page instead of the station link — the icon then opens the wrong screen.
- Adding to Home Screen from Chrome on iPad, which can't create a proper installed app.
- Letting the iPad sleep with auto-lock during service; set Display & Brightness → Auto-Lock appropriately for a register.
Troubleshooting
The register looks stacked/narrow like a phone.
Force-refresh the station page. Tablet layout applies on iPad in Safari and the installed app.
The icon opens to a login page instead of the PIN screen.
Delete the icon and reinstall from the station's install link.
