General troubleshooting checklist

Pedestal is cloud-hosted, so most day-to-day problems trace back to the local side: network, a stale page, device sleep settings, or a missing configuration step. This checklist resolves the majority of issues in a few minutes — and if it doesn't, you'll have exactly the details support needs.

Before you start

  • Note what's failing, on which device, and the exact text of any error message — before changing anything.

Steps

  1. Force-refresh the page or appStale pages cause most "it's showing old data" problems on stations and in the back office.
  2. Check the internetOpen an outside website on the same device. If it fails, it's your network, not Pedestal.
  3. Check the right scopeWrong location in the location switcher, or a role without access, explains many "missing" pages and data.
  4. Reproduce on a second deviceOne device failing = device problem (reinstall/restart it). Everything failing = network or account problem.
  5. Check module configurationFeatures that never worked (vs. stopped working) usually have a setup step missing — each category here has a setup article.

Common mistakes

  • Changing several things at once, so you can't tell what fixed it (or broke it further).
  • Reporting "it doesn't work" without the error text, device, and time — the fastest tickets include all three.

Troubleshooting

Everything is slow across all devices.

Run a speed test on your network. POS stations compete with guest Wi-Fi and streaming — put registers on a dedicated network if possible.

Something worked yesterday and fails today with no changes.

Something changed — usually the network (new router, ISP visit, IP change). Check printers and terminals' IPs first.
