Dejavoo card processing overview
Pedestal processes cards through Dejavoo SPIn terminals. When a cashier charges a card, the POS sends the amount to the paired terminal, the guest taps or inserts, and the terminal returns an approval that the register records against the order. Payments authorize during the day and settle in a batch at End of Day, so the day's card sales are captured together.
Before you start
- A Dejavoo SPIn terminal is paired and assigned to the station (see “Connect payment processing”).
- The terminal is powered on and on the same network as the register.
Steps
- Charge a card — Tap Charge, choose card, and the POS sends the amount to the paired terminal.
- Guest completes on the terminal — The guest taps, inserts, or swipes; the terminal returns an approval.
- Add a tip if enabled — Where tips are on, the tip is captured or adjusted before the batch settles.
- Settle at End of Day — End of Day captures and settles the day's card batches (see “Card settlement at End of Day”).
- Handle an unknown result — If a charge or settlement returns unknown, resolve it through the recovery flow — do not simply retry it.
Common mistakes
- Retrying a charge that returned an unclear result before checking whether it went through.
- Forgetting that tips are finalized at End of Day, so an unapproved tip isn't captured.
Troubleshooting
A charge is interrupted mid-transaction.
Check the order's payment status before charging again to avoid a double charge.
A settlement returns unknown at End of Day.
Use the End of Day recovery/verification flow — an unknown settlement may already have completed, so don't re-settle blindly.
When to contact support
- A card result is unknown and the recovery flow can't resolve it.
- Terminals repeatedly fail to settle with the network confirmed healthy.
