Configure tips and tip prompts

Tips are configured under Business → Tip Rules: percentage presets, an optional house tip fee, and tip-out/pooling rules. When tips are enabled, guests can be prompted on the customer display at payment, and tip amounts entered during service are approved at End of Day so the card capture includes them.

Before you start

  • Decide your tip presets and whether you pool or tip out.
  • A customer display gives guests the cleanest tip prompt (see “The customer display during a sale”).

Steps

  1. Open Business → Tip RulesSet percentage presets and any house tip fee for the location.
  2. Set tip-out or poolingConfigure time-weighted tip-out or pooling rules if you share tips.
  3. Prompt on the customer displayWith tips on, the guest picks a preset or enters an amount at payment.
  4. Approve tips at End of DayTip adjustments are reviewed and approved before batches settle (see “End of Day tip approvals”).

Common mistakes

  • Enabling tips but never approving them at End of Day, so captures miss tip amounts.
  • Setting presets that don't match your service style, confusing guests at the prompt.

Troubleshooting

No tip prompt appears.

Confirm tips are enabled under Tip Rules for the location and the customer display is connected.

A large tip is blocked at End of Day.

It exceeds the approval threshold; a manager approves it by PIN or from the Manager app.
