Bar tabs

A bar tab is a running check not tied to a table — ideal for bar seating. Open a tab under a guest name (or a pre-authorized card where supported), add rounds through the shift, then close the tab to payment like any other check. Tabs stay available locally so service isn't interrupted by a brief network dip.

Before you start

  • The location supports bar tabs.
  • Have a name or identifier for the tab.

Steps

  1. Open a new tabStart a tab and label it with the guest's name so it's easy to find.
  2. Add roundsAdd drinks/items to the tab and Send as needed through the night.
  3. Recall the tabFind the open tab to add more or to close it.
  4. Close the tabCharge the tab to card or another tender, and add a tip if prompted.

Common mistakes

  • Opening multiple tabs for the same guest instead of adding rounds to one.
  • Leaving tabs open at close — reconcile them before End of Day.

Troubleshooting

A tab isn't visible on another station.

Tabs sync in the background; give it a moment or refresh. They remain usable locally if the network dips.

An open tab blocks End of Day.

Close or resolve open tabs first — End of Day readiness flags them.
