Set up menu items for quick service or table service

Restaurant locations (quick service or table service) use the same product catalog as retail, plus a few extras: modifiers for choices like size and toppings, kitchen printer routing so items print at the right station, and — for table service — the table map for coursing and running tabs.

Before you start

  • Confirm your location's business type is set correctly (quick service, table service, or retail) — it controls which features appear.
  • Have your menu with prices, required choices, and where each item is prepared.

Steps

  1. Create menu categoriesMirror your printed menu: Appetizers, Entrées, Drinks, Desserts.
  2. Add each menu item as a productName, price, category — same as any product.
  3. Attach modifier groupsSizes, temperatures, toppings. Mark groups required when the kitchen can't make the item without an answer.
  4. Route items to kitchen printersIf you have kitchen printers, assign items so hot food prints in the kitchen and bar drinks print at the bar.
  5. Table service: set up your table mapOperations → Table Map lets staff open orders by table.
  6. Ring a full test orderInclude a modified item and confirm it prints where the kitchen expects it.

Common mistakes

  • Leaving “choose one” questions optional, so tickets reach the kitchen missing information.
  • Forgetting printer routing on new items — they silently never print in the kitchen.

Troubleshooting

An item doesn't print in the kitchen.

Check the item's printer routing and that the kitchen printer is online (see the kitchen printer article).

The Table Map link is missing.

Table Map only appears for table-service locations. Check your location's business type.
