Add modifiers and required modifier groups

Modifiers capture the choices on an item — size, milk, toppings, doneness. Modifiers live in groups, and each group can be optional (add bacon) or required (choose a size). Required groups stop staff from sending an incomplete ticket.

Before you start

• Enable the Modifiers module in the Settings hub if it isn't already.
• List each choice your menu needs and whether it changes the price.

Steps

1. Open Settings → Modifiers
2. Create a modifier group — For example “Size” or “Toppings”. Add each option and any price adjustment.
3. Mark the group required if a choice is mandatory — Required groups must be answered before the item can be added to a sale.
4. Attach the group to products — One group can be shared by many items — build “Size” once and reuse it.
5. Test at the POS — Ring a modified item and confirm the prompt appears and prices correctly.

Common mistakes

• Building a separate near-identical group per product instead of reusing shared groups.
• Forgetting price adjustments on options that cost more (large size, extra shot).
