How customers earn rewards

Points accrue when a sale is attached to a customer profile. The customer earns your configured points-per-dollar on what they spend; sales rung without a customer attached earn nothing. So the habit that makes loyalty work is simple: attach the customer to every sale.

Before you start

  • Loyalty is enabled with your rates configured.
  • Staff know how to look up and create customers at the POS.

Steps

  1. Attach the customer to the saleLook them up by name or phone at the register, or create a new profile on the spot.
  2. Complete the sale normallyPoints accrue automatically based on the amount spent.
  3. Tell the customer their balanceTheir running points balance lives on their customer profile.

Common mistakes

  • Attaching the customer after payment — build the habit of attaching them before taking payment.
  • Creating duplicate customer profiles, splitting one person's points across two records.

Troubleshooting

A customer says points are missing.

Check whether the sale had their profile attached. If it didn't, that's why — decide your policy for manual goodwill adjustments.

Two profiles exist for one customer.

Standardize on phone-number lookup to avoid duplicates going forward.
