Apply a discount on the POS

Pedestal supports item-level and order-level discounts. Discounts come from the presets you configure in the back office (percentage or fixed amount), or a manual amount if your role allows it. Some discounts require a manager approval before they apply.

Before you start

  • Set up discount presets in the back office under Discount Presets so cashiers pick from a consistent list.
  • Know whether the discount is item-level (one line) or order-level (the whole check).

Steps

  1. For one line: open the line actionsTap the cart line and choose Discount item.
  2. For the whole order: tap DiscountThe Discount action in the order actions bar applies an order-level discount.
  3. Pick a preset or enter an amountChoose a configured preset, or a manual percentage/fixed amount if permitted.
  4. Clear a manager approval if promptedHigher discounts can require a manager PIN or an approval from the Manager app.
  5. Confirm the new totalThe cart total updates and the discount is recorded for reporting.

Common mistakes

  • Ringing a lower custom price instead of a real discount, which hides the markdown from reports.
  • Stacking an order discount on top of item discounts without checking the final total.

Troubleshooting

The discount you want isn't listed.

It isn't a configured preset. Add it under Discount Presets, or use a manual discount if your role allows.

The POS asks for a manager.

That discount is over the threshold set in Manager Overrides. A manager approves it by PIN or from the Manager app Approvals inbox.
